Distinctive heirlooms you’ll pass on to your grandkids.

Harlow Heritage Workshop is rooted in the legacy of C.L. Harlow—my granddad—a woodworker, contractor, and veteran. His shop in Waco, Texas sparked my love for woodworking. Lennie never wasted a scrap of hardwood, was always up for ice cream, and loved listening to my grandmother, Belva, play old pop tunes by ear on her Hammond organ. With his example in mind, we curate and craft distinctive heirlooms to enjoy now & pass down to your grandkids, crafted by hand on Fridays in Homewood, Alabama.
Serving boards are typically thinner, often featuring unique textures, cracks, or inlays that highlight the beauty of the wood. They’re designed for presentation rather than heavy-duty chopping. Cutting boards, on the other hand, are thicker, solid, and built to withstand years of use in the kitchen.
Hand wash your serving and cutting boards gently, and towel dry them immediately. Never submerge them in water or run them through the dishwasher—doing so will break our hearts. To keep your board in great shape for generations, apply a food-safe board oil from time to time.
We’re set up on selected Saturdays at Pepper Place in Birmingham, Alabama, but message us below if you’d like a sample of what’s currently available.
John Woods started Harlow Heritage Workshop with his wife, Lindsay, in late 2020. As a Christian minister and musician, John often has Fridays off, which he spent tinkering in the garage—until one day, after several weekends of “creative nothingness,” he crafted a few serving boards for Lindsay. That simple beginning turned into a passion for woodworking and heritage craftsmanship.
